352nd Birthday of Guru Gobind Singh

Celebration for the 352nd birthday of Prakash Parv commenced on Friday at Gurdwara Bhai Joga Singh Mohalla Jogan Shah Qissa Khuwani Peshawar and concluded on Sunday. Birthday of Guru Gobind is one of the most important and major festivals of Sikh community across the world. Guru Gobind is known to Sikhs as Guru Gobind Singh Prakash, or the dawn of light, born on 5th January 1666 was the tenth Sikh Guru, a spiritual master and a philosopher. During the three day event, over 5000 Sikh devotees from across the districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took part in the procession and converge at the program who attended Akhand Path followed by Shabad Kirtan and Langar.


On the first day, the procession was marked by the rendering of divine hymns by Sikh community including men, women and youth. A large number of Police personnel were deployed by the department and adequate measures were put in place to ensure full security for smooth and hassle-free celebration. The major attraction of the procession was the display of ‘Gatka,’ a famous Sikh martial art and other famous sword exercises. On this occasion, MPA Ravi Kumar paid tribute to slain Soran Singh and said that his services will always be remembered.  He also said that such events will build understanding of traditions and beliefs of minorities and people here have shown a sign of interfaith harmony. He encouraged the Sikh youth to avail the minority quota and pursue for government jobs. He also said that he wishes to see an MPA in Fata from Sikh community. Concluding his speech, he announced that section 4 has been imposed for the land of Shamshan Ghat and Christian graveyard.

In this regard, MPA Wazir zada said that first the opening of Kartarpur Corridor and now this celebration is an exemplum to show the world that we celebrate their religion with love. He further added that soon the minority celebrations will be celebrated on National level. He maintained that the minorities are allowed to practice religion freely and we are here to provide them full security. Wazir zada also paid tribute to Soran Singh by saying that he was a courageous leader who stood for minorities, adding that his services will always be remembered.


Secretary of AHRAMA Hidayat Jan stated that they have allocated budget for religious festivals of minorities of KP that also include conferences and exchange programs.

On this occasion, member Town Council Gul Charan Singh demanded Shaheed package and full time employment for son of slain Soran Singh. He also demanded finances for the renovation and overhaul of one part of the Gurdwara. Singh also requested a guest room to be constructed at the Gurdawara. SP City Shahid Khan also joined the celebration and expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements. He congratulated the Sikh community and stated that the protection and security of our people including the minorities is our prime duty and priority.
